The demonstration of D-* in excess of 2 x 10(9)cmHz(1/2)W(-1) from 1 mm dia
meter, uncooled, semiconductor diode detectors with a pak wavelength respon
se at 5 mum is reported. They are based on heterostructures in the In1-xAlx
Sb alloy system and employ hyperspherical optical immersion. The devices ha
ve sufficiently high impedance for convenient amplifier matching, without s
ignal-to-noise degradation, and the potential for high frequency response a
bove 100 kHz.
