The hydrodistilled essential oil from aerial parts of Cymbopogon winterianu
s Jowitt, cultivated in Southern Brazil, was analysed by CC-MS. Thirty-one
components, representing 96% of the oil, were characterized. Enantiomeric r
atios of limonene, linalool, citronellal and beta -citronellol were obtaine
d by multidimensional gas chromatography, using a developmental model set u
p with two GC ovens. The enantiomeric distributions are discussed as indica
tors of origin authenticity and quality of this oil. Copyright (C) 2000 Joh
