Effect of synthesis conditions on the size and aspect ratio of acicular iron(III) alpha-oxyhydroxide particles prepared in the FeSO4-NH4OH-O-2-H2O system
Ey. Karateeva et al., Effect of synthesis conditions on the size and aspect ratio of acicular iron(III) alpha-oxyhydroxide particles prepared in the FeSO4-NH4OH-O-2-H2O system, INORG MATER, 37(1), 2001, pp. 37-40
The conditions for the synthesis of iron(III) alpha -oxyhydroxide in the Fe
SO4-NH4OH-O-2-H2O system were optimized (pH 7): [FeSO4] = 0.7-1 mol/l, [NH4
OH] = 3 mol/l, reaction temperature between 42 and 55 degreesC, and oxygen
flow rate in the range 7-50 l/h. Increasing the solution pH leads to the fo
rmation of iron(III) alpha -oxyhydroxide particles with an increased aspect
ratio. In the best samples of iron(III) alpha -oxyhydroxide obtained, the
particle size is 0.25-0.30 mum, and the aspect ratio is 10-15.
