Abstract
Using the Reverse transcription-Polymerase chain reaction, we detected dopamine D2 receptor mRNA short and long isoforms in the adult caroti d body of rats, cats, and rabbits. For these animals, the relative sho rt/long ratios were 0.60, 0.65 and 0.57, respectively. Our results sug gest that the variety of dopamine effects on carotid chemoreceptor act ivity, that has been related to species differences, may not be depend ent on the expression levels of the dopamine D2 receptor mRNA isoforms in the studied species.
