Deuterium-terminated silicon nanocrystals were fabricated by electroch
emical anodization with DF electrolyte for the first time. Deuterium-t
erminated and hydrogen-terminated Si nanocrystals were characterized w
ith transmission electron microscope analysis, Raman spectroscopy and
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, The observed spectrum of phot
oluminescence was different despite the same size of the nanocrystals
for both Si nanocrystals. These results can be analyzed by the confine
d carriers coupling to the surface vibration of terminated atoms on na
nocrystals. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
