Abstract
We designed several new primers and modified previously described species- and type-specific primers targeting the Mycoplasma pneumoniae P1 adhesin ge ne. Optimized thermal profiles allowed one-step or nested PCR to be complet ed in less than 1 h. In 10 patients with pneumonia, M. pneumoniae type 1 wa s identified in 3 and type 2 in 7.
