An investigation of the magnetic properties of the Nd16Fe72-xCoxC11B series
is described. The as-cast alloys show the coexistence in equilibrium of th
e Nd2Fe14C phase together with secondary phases, such as alpha -Fe and the
very corrosive chi (hexagonal) phase. After one week of heat treatment, the
main 2:14:1 phase in the alloys is verified. It is verified that the addit
ion of 1 at % B reduces the presence of a-Fe in this compound, whereas the
substitution of Co for Fe causes an increase of the critical temperature. F
or x = 10 a maximum is observed in both the remanence and coercivity, at 4k
G and 3 kOe, respectively. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserv
