V. Greco et al., Optical contact and van der Waals interactions: the role of the surface topography in determining the bonding strength of thick glass plates, J OPT A-P A, 3(1), 2001, pp. 85-88
The experimental issues of optical contact are related to the theory of van
der Waals interactions. Ways of taking into account the surface topography
are presented. It is found that, as an order of magnitude, the approach ac
counts for the observed bonding strength, given typical surface features.
