Raman spectra within the C-H stretching region (2800-3000 cm(-1)) an analyz
ed for polyethylene samples with different degrees of uniaxial orientation.
Two second-order bands with the A(g) symmetry are observed within this ran
ge along with two fundamental vibrations. The orientation degree of macromo
lecules is shown to have a predominant influence on the shape of Raman spec
tra, which may mask spectral changes accompanying variations in the conform
ation or phase composition of samples.
