Bj. Hwang et al., Characteristics of Pt/Nafion (R) electrodes prepared by a Takenata-Torikaimethod in sensing hydrogen, MATER CH PH, 69(1-3), 2001, pp. 267-273
The influences of reductant concentration and Pr loading on the response an
d the recovery time and the sensitivity of the Pt/Nafion(R) electrodes prep
ared by a Takenata-Torikai method in detecting hydrogen were investigated i
n this study. The sensitivities of Pt/Nafion(R) electrodes prepared in 0.06
N NaBH4 increase non-linearly from 0.0332 to 0.152 muA/cm(2) ppm with incr
easing Pt loadings from 2.59 to 7.76 mg/cm(2) in the H-2 concentration rang
e of 0-152542 ppm. However, the sensitivities per unit Pt loading show a ma
ximum at Pt loading of 5.20 mg/cm(2). Meanwhile, the Pt/Nafion(R) electrode
s with Pt loading of 7.76 mg/cm(2) obtained at 0.06 N NaBH4, show the faste
st response and recovery speed in sensing hydrogen. Generally, both the res
ponse and the recovery time decrease with an increasing of the hydrogen con
centration. A sensing model was also proposed to illustrate the sensing phe
nomenon. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
