Lifetimes have been measured up to the 22(+) level in the yrast positive-pa
rity band and up to the 13(-) level in the negative-parity band in Se-72 us
ing the line-shape analysis methods. The B(E2) and Q(t) values obtained fro
m these measurements show a prolate shape stabilization along the yrast ban
d with increasing spins. A noncollective behavior is obtained even at the m
oderate spins for the negative-parity band. These experimental results are
compared with theoretical predictions of the EXCITED VAMPIR and the project
ed shell model.
