The role of best management practices in alleviating water quality problems associated with diffuse pollution

This paper introduces the concept of best management practices for the cont rol of diffuse pollution. It considers where they are appropriate, and how the concept of a best management practice approach differs from the convent ional means of controlling pollution by regulating each point source, in re lation to established environmental quality standards and available dilutio n.
