Abstract
Data of water adsorption on polycrystalline gold show the formation of a mu ltilayer film of several nanometers with the increase of relative humidity. We have measured this adsorption process by scanning force microscopy in b oth dynamic and jumping modes. We find interesting differences in the adsor ption of water on the terraces and at grain boundaries. Measurements of adh esion force are also reported. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
