Abstract
In this paper, the spectroscopy characteristics and the second-order n onlinear optical properties of a series of push-pull chromorphores (R- HANB) based on 4'-bis (N,N-hydroxyethylene)imino-4-nitro azobenzene we re studied, R-HANB were classified as pseudo-stilbene type molecules, which possess ultrafast photoresponsive time scale. The intensities of the second-order harmonic generation of R-HANB powder were mostly in the intense higher than that of Disperse Red 1, while their composite values of first hyperpolarlizabilities and ground state permanent dipo le monents were in the order of >3.4X10(-82) C(2)m(4)/V-2. The second harmonic coefficients for the poled R-HANB-doped PMMA films were in th e order of >7.2X10(-19)m(4)/V. The variation of these properties of R- HANB was explained well by the electron and steric effects of substitu ents.
