Abstract
The simultaneous inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer d escribed in this article was introduced to meet the increasing demand for c omplete elemental analysis together with the ever-increasing downward press ure on costs. The challenge of designing an affordable instrument that uses the most recent advances in megapixel charge-coupled device detection tech nology are explained, and examples of the application of the instrument for environmental analysis are presented.
