Abstract
The concept of minimal deviation melanoma accepts kinships among variant ne vi, atypical variant nevi, and a group of variant neoplasms whose chief fea tures are vertical growth-like patterns and cytologic atypia. These special Variants are identified by the features they share with the variant nevi. The uniqueness of the patterns in the variants of minimal deviation melanom a is easily affirmed by careful observations. This article attempts to affo rd a view of minimal deviation melanoma. The premise is a promotion of rela tionships between variant nevi, respective atypical variant nevi, and varia nt neoplasms in which the distinguishing characteristic is a vertical growt h component showing cytologic atypia, the degree of which varies with the v ariants.
