Abstract
As a result of his studies in metalogic Essler became convinced that an abs olute fixed totality of all truths and a final metalanguage does not exist. Taking this result into account, it is shown that the usual absolute conce pt of omniscience is untenable. From this it can be concluded that definiti ons of knowledge which appeal to such a concept of omniscience lead to seri ous problems.
