Abstract
This study describes a modified long-term group analysis for bulimic women. In a naturalistic, prospective 'before-and-after' design the study evaluat es the effects of the treatment by 'effect size' and clinical significant c hange. Nne out of ten bulimic patients who completed treatment obtained rec overy, not only from bulimic behaviour, but also from several different are as of psychological dysfunctioning. Long-term psychoanalytic group treatmen t was found to be a valuable option for treatment of severely bulimic patie nts. The group concept holds many inherent advantages and can be combined w ith individual and antidepressant treatment. It is suggested that a wider r ange of measures is needed to evaluate treatment outcome. The Bulimics Matu ration Scale constructed by the author is to introduce as an outcome measur e.
