Abstract
This study of colleges and universities found that faculty influence d id not diminish when programs were closed and budgets were cut. Rather than authority being seized by the president during a financial crisi s, power became more dispersed. Faculty morale was related to the seve rity of the financial downturn, but the amount of faculty influence ov er budget decisions was not.
