Abstract
Considering the nonlinearity of the voltage transfer characteristics for a practical voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) used in phase locked loops (P LLs), the distortion in the response of a PLL in transient mode as well as FM tracking mode has been numerically studied. The inclusion of a suitably designed nonlinear amplifier in the PLL structure has been proposed to comb at the adverse effects of VCO nonlinearity. The response of the modified PL L system has been examined through simulation experiment.
