Elastic characteristics of kyanite at pressures to 5.5 GPa

Elastic characteristics of kyanite at pressures to 5.5 GPa were measured on a modified high-pressure solid-phase apparatus using the ultrasonic pulse method. The experiments were conducted on samples of kyanite and kyanite ro ck along the crystallographic directions [001] and [100]. The measured elas tic characteristics of kyanite indicate it to be an anisotropic high-veloci ty mineral whose presence in a rock can have a significant effect on its el astic and anisotropic properties.
