Abstract
Uniaxial compressional strain-stress experiments on a nearly pure dolomite sample from the Guben borehole, North German-Polish Basin are reported. Neu tron time-of-flight (TOF) diffraction measurements were carried out for the first time on in situ deformed samples. the applied load being increased s tepwise, Additionally, the relaxed condition of the sample was measured aft er each step of loading. The (11 (2$) over bar3), (10 (1) over bar4) and (0 006) reflections of dolomite were used for further interpretations. All thr ee lattice planes are under compression, in both loaded and relaxed states. The published data for isotropic polycrystalline aggregates agree well wit h the inferred Young's modulus for the (11 (2) over bar3) reflection but di sagree with the (0006) and (10 (1) over bar4) reflections. The disparity ma y arise from (1) the peculiarity of macro- and microstructural features of the sample or (2) the superposition of diffraction peaks and the resulting complications in data analysis.
