Pn. Sophiamma et K. Sreekumar, POLY(METHYL METHACRYLATE) SUPPORTED HYDROXAMIC ESTERS - A NEW CLASS OF ACYL TRANSFER REAGENTS, European Polymer Journal, 33(6), 1997, pp. 863-867
Poly(methyl methacrylate) supported hydroxamic esters were prepared an
d developed as a new class of recyclable solid-phase reagent. The difu
nctional crosslinking agents employed were divinylbenzene, ethylenegly
col dimethacrylate and N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (N,N'-MBA). Polym
eric hydroxamic esters have been found to be selective in acylating am
ines and amino acids. When the reactivity of the acyl group attached t
o the differently crosslinked poly(methyl methacrylate) matrix is comp
ared, it is seen that the acyl transfer functions generated on the N,N
'-MBA crosslinked poly(methyl methacrylate) are more reactive. The spe
nt reagent can be regenerated to the hydroxamic esters by a simple rea
ction, without considerable loss in activity. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scienc
