S. Moulay et Wh. Daly, CHEMICAL-REACTIONS ON REDOX POLYMER PRECURSORS .1. CHLOROMETHYLATION AND LITHIATION, European Polymer Journal, 33(6), 1997, pp. 929-935
Chloromethylation and lithiation were amongst the different chemical r
eactions carried out on five redox polymers: poly(5-vinyl-1,3-benzodio
xole), poly I; poly(3,4-dimethoxystyrene), poly II; poly(2,3-dimethoxy
styrene), poly III; poly(6-vinyl-1,4-benzodioxane), poly IV; poly(4-vi
nyl-1,3-benzodioxole), poly V. In the course of the former reaction, a
n inter- and/or intrapolymeric Friedel-Crafts alkylation has been ensu
ed leading to crosslinked polymers. Only poly(6-vinyl-1,4-benzodioxane
), poly IV, could undergo chloromethylation but under severely control
led conditions. The lithiation did not exceed 60% in terms of degree o
f substitution. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
