Th. Jaing et al., Tumor lysis syndrome in an infant with Langerhans cell histiocytosis successfully treated using continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration, J PED H ONC, 23(2), 2001, pp. 142-144
Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is an enigmatic disease usually occurri
ng in children. Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a clinical syndrome associate
d with severe: metabolic derangement and oliguric acute renal failure. In t
his report, we present the clinical course of an infant with advanced LCH w
ho had TLS develop after chemotherapy. Treatment with continuous arterioven
ous hemofiltration resulted in effective control of serum uric acid, potass
ium, creatinine. phosphorus, and blood urea nitrogen levels in the blood.
