Abstract
The synthesis of a new ring structure, octaethylbenzochloracene (6), derive d from octaethylporphycene is reported. A viable route to the benzochlorace ne is shown and parallels the transformation of porphyrin to benzochlorin. Octaethylbenzochloracene's spectral data shows a unique UV-vis spectrum and an interesting NMR spectrum. Unfortunately, an attempt to synthesize the a nalogous purpurin derivative, purpuracene (8), failed. Copyright (C) 2001 J ohn Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
