Abstract
Chronic renal failure is a major cause of morbidity and mortality after ort hotopic liver transplantation. We did a randomised controlled trial of myco phenolate mofetil monotherapy in liver transplant patients who developed re nal failure associated with calcineurin-inhibitor (ciclosporin or tacrolimu s) immunosuppressive therapy. Although renal failure improved when the calc ineurin-inhibitor dose was reduced and ultimately stopped, the trial was st opped when three of five patients on monotherapy developed organ rejection requiring a second transplantation.
