The effect of partial coherence on four-wave mixing in photorefractive medi
a is studied by taking into account the evolution and propagation of the mu
tual coherence via a theoretical model. This model is applied to four-wave
mixing and two-wave mixing with fully or partially coherent waves. We studi
ed the effect of partial coherence with the presence of all the gratings, a
nd compared the results with those of the transmission grating approximatio
n and of the reflection grating approximation, respectively.
