This paper briefly describes some methods that can be used to generate and
analyze data on arts-related phenomena. It begins with a brief summary of t
he advantages of probability samples for the study of the arts, and then de
scribes the hypernetwork sampling method for generating data on entities fo
r which no sampling frame exists. The paper then discusses some examples of
the analysis of hypernetwork data, and concludes with some sensitizing que
