Abstract
The binuclear complex [Cu-2(phen)(2)(Hpht)(2)(NO3)(H2O)]NO3. 2H(2)O (Hpht = hydrogen phthalate and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been synthesized an d structurally characterized. The structure consists of unsymmetrical di-mu -carboxylato-bridged [Cu-2(phen)(2)(Hpht)(2)(NO3)(H2O)](+) cation, one NO3 - anion and two H2O solvate molecules. The temperature dependence of the ma gnetic susceptibilities of the complex have been studied in the range 5-300 K, giving the exchange coupling parameter J= -79.2 cm(-1), indicating a mo derately strong antiferromagnetic interaction between the copper(II) ions w ithin the binuclear unit.
