Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of the complexes CuX2L2 {where X = CH3CH ClCOO-, CH3CCl2COO- or ClCH2CHClCOO-, and L = nicotinamide (na), isonicotin amide (ina) or methyl-3-pyridylcarbamate (mpc)} are reported. Characterizat ion of the compounds was based on elemental analysis, IR, electronic and EP R spectra. All the CuX2L2 compounds seem to possess octahedral copper(II) s tereochemistry with differing tetragonal distortion. Complex [Cu(CH3CCl2COO )(2)(mpc)(2)] was also stud led by X-ray analysis. The structure of [Cu(CH3 CCl2COO)(2)(mpc)(2)] is centrosymmetric. The Cu(II) atom is pseudo-octahedr ally trims-coordinated by four carboxylic oxygen atoms of alpha, alpha -dich loropropionate anions [Cu(1)-O(1)= 1.959(2) Angstrom (2 x) and Cu(1) - O(2) = 2.677(2) Angstrom (2 x)], and by two nitrogen atoms two methyl-3-pyridyl carbamate ligands [Cu(1) - N(1) = 1.981(2) Angstrom (2 x)]. The antibacteri al effects have been tested on various strains of bacteria, yeasts and micr omycetes. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
