Tri(m-tolyl)antimony dichloride was prepared by oxidation of tri(m-tolyl)st
ibine with chlorine or copper(II) chloride. Single crystal X-ray diffractio
n study showed that the antimony atom in tri(m-tolyl)antimony dichloride ha
s a configuration of trigonal bipyramid with axial chlorine atoms. The Sb-C
l bond lengths are 2.4617(12) and 2.4793(13) Angstrom, the CSbC bond angles
are 119.29(15)degrees, 120.34(16)degrees, and 120.36(15)degrees, and the C
lSbCl angle is 177.20(4)degrees. The distance between one of equatorial car
bon atoms and the chlorine atom is 3.188 Angstrom.
