Abstract
The presence and composition of amniotic fluid (AF) microflora, as well as AF glucose concentration and white blood cell (WBC) count, were investigate d in 22 consecutive asymptomatic women with intact membranes at mid-gestati on. AF mns retrieved by trans-abdominal amniocentesis. Three of the 22 wome n (13.6%) had microorganisms in their AF: Chlamydia trachomatis in 2 and bo th Corynebacterium group absolute nonfermenter (ANF) group and Propionibact erium spp. in 1. No differences were found in clinical characteristics, glu cose concentration or WBC count in patients with slid without microorganism s in their AF.
