The authors provide an overview of the influences in the development and co mmercialization of laser ablation as a sample introduction tool for analyzi ng solids by plasma-based spectrochemical techniques. Some typical applicat ions using a commercial laser ablation system coupled to both ICP-MS and IC P-AES are discussed.
