Abstract
A one-pot and efficient preparation of aromatic nitriles from the correspon ding aldehydes was accomplished by treatment with 2 M ammonia solution in 2 -propanol, magnesium sulfate, and manganese dioxide in THF at room temperat ure. This method was found to be compatible with a variety of functionaliti es such as hydroxyl, ester, and amide.
