Abstract
Aroma emissions from living cells can provide valuable information about th e metabolic and physiological condition of those cells. Electronic noses ar e chemical gas-sensor arrays that use artificial neural network models to e valuate aromas. They can interpret the complex aroma information emitted fr om cultures of bacteria, yeast cells and animal cells. Potential applicatio ns for electronic noses range from medical diagnosis to industrial bioproce ssing.
