Fractal structures for uniform fluid distribution in the sugar industry

Significant economic benefits can be achieved by optimizing conventional fl uid distributors or designing new equipment utilizing the advantages of imp roved distribution systems. A new generation of fluid distributors based on fractal geometry have recently been installed. Testing has demonstrated th e efficient and uniform distribution characteristics of these fractal struc tures. General benefits of fractal distributors and specific benefits for v arious applications are given in the paper. In the sugar industry, fractal distributors can be used for chromatography, ion exchange and decolorizatio n processes.
