Yh. Zhao et al., Experimental investigation on water solubility in olivine single crystals with different Fe content., ACTA PETR S, 17(1), 2001, pp. 123-128
This paper reports the experimental results of water solubility in San Carl
os olivine single crystals with different iron content hydrothermally annea
led under a pressure of 300MPa and at a temperature from 1000 degreesC to 1
300 degreesC with 50 degreesC increments with oxygen fugacity controlled by
the Ni/NiO buffer. The water content was analyzed using infrared spectra i
n [010] direction of polished samples in crack-free and inclusion-free regi
ons about 15 to 25 mum in diameter. From the FTIR analysis, it is observed
that water content increases with iron content as well as temperature under
the experimental condition we used. The implication of the test result to
the dynamic process in earth mantle is discussed briefly as well.
