Cm. Roebers et al., ATTRIBUTIONAL STYLE AND ACCULTURATION OF IMMIGRANTS IN COMPARISON TO NON-MIGRATED GERMAN CHILDREN, PSYCHOLOGIE IN ERZIEHUNG UND UNTERRICHT, 44(3), 1997, pp. 176-186
Germany faces a never expected wave on immigrants since the political
liberalization in Eastern Europe. In a longitudinal study, two groups
of immigrant children from Eastern Europe and from Eastern Germany wer
e compared with two non-immigrant groups in Western and Eastern German
y. The 3rd to 5th graders were questioned in regard to their attributi
ons for success and failure. The immigrants from Eastern Europe attrib
uted their success and failures more often to task-difficulty than the
non-immigrants. The attribution to effort for success and failure was
most frequently used by all groups. A slight accuituration process of
the immigrants from Eastern Europe to the Western German students was
observed over a one year period by showing group specific changes.
