M. Pinquart et S. Schonbrodt, PERCEPTIONS OF ELDERLY ABOUT THE YOUTH - IS THERE A NEGATIVE YOUTH-STEREOTYPE, PSYCHOLOGIE IN ERZIEHUNG UND UNTERRICHT, 44(3), 1997, pp. 197-203
Judgements of 76 elderly about youth are compared with opinions of 131
6th and 9th graders about their peers. Whereas approximately 50% of t
he younger participants expected negative attitudes of the elderly, pe
nsioners perceived the youth in single dimensions more positively than
6th and 9th graders judged their peers. But the elderly had more posi
tive attitudes about their own youth than about the youth of today. Im
plications for intergenerational interventions are discussed.
