Ck. Liam et al., Acceptance of the Accuhaler, a multidose powder inhaler, among asthmatic Patients: A comparison with the pressurized metered-dose inhaler, A P J ALLER, 18(3), 2000, pp. 135-140
This study aimed to evaluate dry powder inhaler naive asthmatic patients' p
erception and preference of the Accuhaler(TM), a multidose dry powder inhal
er and the pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI). After the first instruc
tion, 66.7% of 48 patients enrolled in the study could demonstrate the corr
ect use of the Accuhaler(TM). When the patients were asked to compare the p
MDI and the Accuhater(TM) after using the Accuhaler to administer salmetero
l for 4 weeks, the Accuhaler(TM) scored significantly better than the pMDI
for the following features: knowing how many doses are left, presence of an
attached cover, taste, instruction for use, attractiveness, ease of use, e
ase of holding, shape, and comfortable mouthpiece. The pMDI scored better t
o the Accuhaler(TM) in terms of size. More patients preferred the Accuhater
(TM) than the pMDI; the presence of a dose counter and perceived ease of us
e were the main reasons cited for their preference for the Accuhaler(TM).
