Abstract
The use of organic solvents should be minimized as far as possible to reduc e atmospheric volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Examples of solvent-free o rganic syntheses are described. The increasing usage of renewable feedstock s taking advantage of the synthetic potential of nature is another way to a void organic solvents. Most important is the development of chemical produc ts, i.e., coatings that can be processed without organic solvents. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
