Abstract
The failure analysis of a disc and a few of the rotor parts of a turbo-gene rator of a 10 MW captive power plant has been made. It was found that a par t of the rim of the 23rd disc, which had cracked by fatigue, became unstabl e and was flung off. This hit the diaphragm and the diaphragm carrier in it s vicinity and led to their catastrophic failure. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
