Abstract
Nd:MgO:LiNbO3 is a laser material. Planar optical waveguides in Nd:MgO :LiNbO3 were formed by Hei implantation to doses of 1.4 x 10(16) and 1 .5 x 10(16) ions/cm(2) at energies of 2.8 and 2.5 MeV, respectively, a nd dark modes were observed by the prism coupling method. The effect o f MeV He ion implantation on the lattice order of the crystals in the guiding regions of the waveguides was analyzed by the Rutherford backs cattering/channeling technique. The refractive index profiles are all calculated and fitted by using WKB method and PIPR method, respectivel y. The fluorescence spectrum of the sample has been measured.
