Interfaces in Fe(xML)/V(yML) multilayers have been examined. Two pairs of s
amples each with definite x and y were prepared using the same deposition p
rocess and the same Elemental variations with the Fe-57 probe layers interf
oliated between completed V and Fe (natural abundance) layers. The only dif
ference was the deposition ordering. The superlattice structures were analy
zed by X-ray diffraction and Fe-57 Conversion Electron Mossbauer Spectrosco
py at room temperature and at 10 K. The Fe-57 magnetic hyperfine field dist
ribution for the pairs is found to be significantly different, irrespective
ly of the values of x, and y and can be interpreted as due to the Fe layer
being smoother than the V one. The magnetic moments: derived for the interf
ace layer as well as for the subsequent atomic lag er are significantly low
er than the calculated values.
