In this exploratory study, a multidimensional model of group behavior was u
sed to evaluate the performance of P & T Committees when addressing controv
ersial issues. A hey committee member and two constituents from each partic
ipating hospital were surveyed to assess their perceptions of their group's
performance. Respondents provided an overall positive assessment of group
performance, but were less positive about the impact of their committee's d
ecision on clinical and economic outcomes. Constituents also differed in th
eir assessments on certain dimensions of their group's performance. The fin
dings of this study provide some insight into measuring P & T Committee fun
ctioning from a group dynamics performance standpoint.
