Abstract
Hexahydrobenzo[b]furan derivatives were efficiently synthesized by the radi cal cyclization of 1-arylcyclohexenes, 1-phenylcycloheptene, and 1,1-diaryl ethenes with barbituric acid derivatives or 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedio ne (dimedone) using manganese(III) acetate or cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate ( CAN).
