A. Birner et al., ELECTRIC-FIELD-INDUCED BROADENING OF PERSISTENT SPECTRAL HOLES IN SM2-DOPED BORATE GLASS(), Journal of luminescence, 72-4, 1997, pp. 162-163
We observed electric-field-induced broadening of persistent spectral h
oles in the 684 nm zero-phonon line of Sm2+ in berate glass. The avera
ge value of the electric-field-induced frequency shifting is <(beta)ov
er bar> = (17 +/- 4) MHz cm/kV. The explanation of the results is base
d on the statistical distribution of the asymmetries of the matrix cag
es. This distribution is essential for those possible applications, in
which the independent use of both the electric field and the waveleng
th dimensions is necessary.
