Light output response of a large GSO(Ce) crystal and a stacked GSO(Ce) spec
trometer was investigated by the use of pp scattering at a lab. energy of 3
92 MeV. The proton beam was provided by the Research Center for Nuclear Phy
sics (RCNP). A stacked GSO(Ce) scintillator spectrometer consisted of three
plastic plates, two cubic GSO(Ce) crystals and a cylindrical GSO(Ce) cryst
al. The cubes have edge length of 43 mm and the cylinder of 62 mm in diamet
er and 120 mm long. Energy spectra of protons from H(p,2p) scattering were
measured at 12 angles from 19.7 to 66.1 deg in lab. frame. With results for
cubes, a relation of light output and deposit energy was determined up to
161 MeV. The measurement with the cylinder allowed the light output up to 1
98 MeV to be studied. With these results good linearity was confirmed in a
proton energy range between 30 to 198 MeV. By the use of the relation deter
mined presently, light output of the stacked GSO(Ce) was examined. It was c
onfirmed that, in a case of stacked GSO(Ce), the linearity holds up to at l
east 340 MeV.
