Abstract
The results of field experiments conducted during 1995-96 and 1996-97 on th e effect of depth of planting and mulching on rainfed turmeric (Curcuma lon ga L.) revealed that germination, growth characters, yield attributes and f resh-rhizome yield were positively affected by increasing the depth of plan ting from 2.5 cm to 15.0 cm under low rate of mulching (5 t/ha). No differe nce in yield was found on application of either fresh sal-leaf mulch or pad dy-straw mulch, both applied at similar rates.
